well i'm sure the logos/names designs are still copyrighted, he's just allowing the world to use his technology, I guess he's more like Dr. Nikola Tesla than we thought.

A patent is an invention and a copyright is an idea or expression of an idea (painting, song, etc.).

For instance, you'd patent your famous recipe, but you'd copyright the cookbook you publish your recipe within. You don't "open up" a copyright, that would be like telling people, "Yes, you can use my logo/song/painting for your business."

So, Tesla will never "open up" their copyrights because that would essentially be giving companies permission to use Tesla's creative ideas, like their logo, designs, etc. That is simply foolish. Opening up their patents to the public, though, gives the public access to all of Tesla's inventions, which will likely incite some innovation, or at least save R&D costs for manufacturers who want to build electric cars.
